Had a wonderful Thanksgiving, one of peace and quiet and reflection and family. Stark contrast to my country, which values shopping ahead of human relationships and contemplation. The orgy of consumption that is the Day After Thanksgiving is as incongruous a follow-up to a day set aside for gratitude as Mardi Gras would be if it followed Ash Wednesday.
